Overview / Abstract

Teacher students specific supplements and professional references for the basic lectures of physics (“silent videos”)

Aims:

  1. Students are helped to recognize the relevance of contents of scientific lectures in experimental physics (basic lectures) for school practice.
  2. “Silent videos” of key experiments open students new training possibilities that prepare for professional demonstrations and linguistic sensitive moderations of experiments in physics classroom.
  3. A collection of basic experiments including optimized and appropriate set-ups is offered.
  4. A website (digital an interactive) provides cross-references and links to school physics including a collection of web links.

Abstract:

The teacher training course in physics prepares well and comprehensively for the scientific requirements in the teaching profession. Concrete references to the occupational field of education are not sufficiently developed for the students in the first study phase. The present project promotes the reference to the later professional activity of student teachers and concentrates on the content of the basic lectures on experimental physics for various teacher training programs, which have special school relevance.
Presenting and demonstrating classroom experiments often causes problems for many physics teachers in the first training phase at university and second training phase at school. Here the project starts among other things: With the help of videos without an audio track (“silent videos”), students learn to moderate selected demonstration experiments in a physically and didactically solid manner. They do an audio track to the video clips provided on the internet to computer or smartphone and embed them in a lesson sketch in the next step. The videos show optimized, school-specific set-ups and presentations of key experiments. At the end of the first training phase students should have a repertoire of key experiments that they can present and adequately explain to students at school.
In addition to content-related aspects, the concept also considers the competence areas of communication and knowledge acquisition. School and classroom-related additions (such as curriculum references, visualizations, risk assessments, etc.) are provided and can be discussed in related didactic seminars.
The web-platform with the silent videos, cross-references and the links to the school physics incl. a link collection is already accessible to the students as well as the teachers in the second training phase and in the school service.
